Artist Statement Submitted 2017
My artwork objectifies the lifelike facades and theatrical ambiance reflected in my career and incorporates classic circus iconography and Midway aesthetics as a way to link these experiences to my past. My work in businesses that specialize in the cultivation of staged realities has left me with a mixed sense of apprehension and affection. On the one hand, these experiences feel natural, like home… but on the other hand it is a facade, a theatrical representation.My parents did the unthinkable and ‘ran away to join the circus’ and in some ways, discover their true selves. But in some respects, I ran away from the circus for the exact same reason only… it seems as though I have gone full circle.
