Artist Statement Submitted 2015“Methodical, lean, and ambiguous, my practice investigates the concepts of familiar domestic situations, mortality, time jumping, and southern narrative traditions. These associations help underline my interest in art making that conveys a "phenomenological reduction.”
I would describe myself as a figurative artist. An artist, not so much interested in the body, but objects that stand in for the body. I refer to these objects and groupings as "props." These props can be viewed as things that have been imprinted by a figurative body and / or memorial language. Most recently, I have been interested in the concept of transferable memories; the idea that emotions and memories can be transferred from one life to another.
