Artist Statement Submitted 2018SPLENDOR IN DECAY
My work is about memory and splendor in decay with color images taken while traveling around the state of Georgia.
These images are visual ghosts that capture the passing light and an essence of what was.
They bypass nostalgia by focusing on what is the real South of today. Peeling paint, building vestiges of what used to be, and ghostly gothic interiors that I have conjured up to represent the intangible, evanescent past and present of the glorious South.
Should you happen to pass by one of these forgotten dream worlds, ALWAYS remember what was, and most importantly, what always will be the unforgettable American South.
With SPLENDOR IN DECAY, the past is yet to come!
