Artist Statement Submitted 2016My work is about memory, splendor and decay with color images in and around Richmond, Virginia. Although splendor and decay are thought to be exact opposites, they can exist together in an image to create a dynamic juxtaposition of the present with the past.
They bypass nostalgia by focusing on what is the real South of today. Peeling paint, building vestiges of what used to be, and ghostly gothic interiors are what I have conjured up to represent the intangible, evanescent, past and present of the glorious South.
Should you happen to pass by one of these forgotten dream worlds, ALWAYS remember what was, and most importantly, what will be.
