Artist Statement Submitted 2019I am a pen-and-ink artist who uses architecture as a subject. My drawings are portraits, not just renderings. I seek fleeting moments of light and shadow—fully realized compositions—single moments of beauty. I carefully organize the composition, adjust the lighting for dramatic purposes, and capture the solidity, strength, textures, surface finishes, and character of my subject with a stroke of a pen.
I’m finding my work to be more abstract, more intellectual, and more conceptually complex: finding striking images in the fleeting passage of light and calling the viewer’s attention to my vision. As I create, I’m engaged in problem solving; a continual form of expression. I make art that pushes beyond what I already know.
