Artist Statement Submitted 2019

Seeing and thinking, looking for unseen qualities and relationships, presenting something new, which, as a result, challenge both the artist and the viewer to see and to think differently about an object, is very rewarding.

The challenge for me, the artist, was to create images, which could provide the viewer opportunities for the formation of conceptual thought and/or the formation of ideas; to move past an image of a square towards the conceptual formation of an idea. The square becomes a symbol or a metaphor.

Visual discovery, it seems, is an experience shared by both the artist and the viewer as the transformative process of looking deeper, both visually and conceptually, can occur when looking through the viewfinder at the point of creation and as an active participant viewing an image presented at an exhibit or on a gallery wall.
