The paintings are a metaphor for the shared experience of being human. They are a collection of familiar moments, the women are authentic, engaging and reassuring. The open manner and familiar composure of the figures in these time-capsule snapshots welcome us into their time. We recognize ourselves and make a connection with these ordinary people and their path. They are at a pause, in simple ordinary moments are seen in a renewed light. Engaging us with a direct gaze, we connect and they tell us their secrets. We feel the commonality and empathy of old friends. Part documentary, part naturalistic expression, these paintings examine familiar topics of gender, class, social movements and a genuine shared existence.
