Artist Statement Submitted 2018
Rooted in a traditional practice of drawing and painting, my work explores the limits of printmaking, interspersing my practice with video, installation, and performance. Through these intersections of media, my work explores themes of memory, loss, and mental illness. Most recently, my work draws connections between the physical and psychological impressions left by traumatic experiences. Utilizing modalities of print media such as reflectivity and repetition, my work provides an analogous space in which to conceptualize the body and its memories. The work seeks to confront the silence surrounding traumatic events, mental illness, and the messiness of healing. Ultimately, it calls into question the cyclical nature of violence - what is the language of trauma and how does individual identity resist or define its mark?
