Artist Statement Submitted 2015I believe art should connect with people. Since I grew up in a home full of artists, I started making art early on. As I grew, however, I began to realize that a lot of art didn’t connect with people, that sometimes the artist’s focus was more on trying to impress rather than connect. This perception steered me away from pursuing art as a career. Instead I went into advertising, where connecting with people was the bottom line.
Advertising enhanced my love of art, nurtured a love of storytelling and eventually led me to film, a medium that also incorporated movement and emotion. I found filmmaking to be the most complete and powerful art form I had ever worked with. It allowed me to tell the story of what I think art should do – connect with people – and through “Making Art,” people are connecting with that story.
