Artist Statement Submitted 2015
Having a strong interest in materiality, and a personal connection to gardening, cooking and handcrafting, my studio practice is focused on the exploration of mark-making and substance manipulation to develop surfaces and forms that engage the viewer towards a closer observation. My attention to surface and detailed foundation layers places emphasis on the physical aspect of the work, as I explore modifications and manipulations that yield unusual and seductive results. I describe my approach to making art as a process of experimentation and excavation, an inquiry or journey. There is no map or definitive end and no preconceived plan of travel, only a sense that something waits to be revealed.Jane Allen Nodine
