Artist Statement Submitted 2016I have two concurrent bodies of work, which maintain separate identities, but are of equal importance in my life. I create architectural nature-based environments in the landscape. The work I am submitting for consideration with this grant is my studio practice that involves making objects.
My object-based work often references the human form and/or condition. The work is fueled by social and political ideas, as well as interpersonal and familial relationships. Most recently the polarization of society has been a major concern. This work allows me to ruminate on an idea, exploring the ambiguities, which make differing perspectives possible. I use this activity as a means of understanding and working through the complexities of life. This work more accurately reflects the excitement and frustrations of day-to-day existence than my more ethereal interactions in the landscape.
