Hannah Hill

Artist Statement Submitted 2019

The artwork I make attempts a veneer of an alternate reality, gleaned from fragments of my own – Of imagined or internal narratives that culminate in a forged personal mythology.
My work draws on narratives from a childhood spent in Alabama, riddled with family mythos, folk horror, farms and religion. I experiment with phantasmagoric imagery, nonrepresentational color, space and shape. I would like to achieve a folk horror tension throughout the paintings to suggest a unique aesthetic and my experience of being raised in the Deep South.
