Artist Statement Submitted 2017My artworks address the unusual, the everyday, and the puzzling territories in between.
By creating perceptually challenging interventions in public spaces, I aim to evoke unexpected art-like states of awareness in viewers. In posing conundrums with indefinite boundaries, I hope to unsettle viewers’ presumptions about what they’re “supposed” to see when looking at the world. Together, we may test the conventional distinctions between artworks and other objects, between messages and coincidences, between images and mute facts.
I want us to grant ourselves permission to respond to our actual experiences with all the sensitivity, legitimacy and significance we normally reserve for high art.
