Douglas Bourgeois makes small scale oil paintings on wood panels that depict dream state narratives, biographical fantasies and tributes to cherished unsung recording artists, writers,visual artists and unspecified characters. Other media he has worked inare collage, mixed media collage, watercolor, wood collage, linocut prints and box
constructions.
Forgotten movies, Deep Soul, Southern Gospel, unpolished rock and roll, wrenching
blues vocals, vernacular Americana, religious iconography, discarded paper ephemera, and the mysterious life of objects are sources for his work. The overpowering exuberance of the Gulf South's landscape is another elemental influence.
