Artist Statement Submitted 2014

Through work I came to understand that my interest was in the underlying elemental forces at play which are not just “out there”, but also within. Quiet observation deepens experience of the immense interconnectedness of everything. Perception is not about looking at, but connecting with. The charged environment itself, the eternal rhythm of waves, weather, tides is the subject, as well as the human presence within that. The ships, ever coming and going, embody trade, commerce, the idea of the voyage, as they simultaneously reference a world beyond our field of vision, as well as the one within it.
