Artist Statement Submitted 2017
For over ten years, I have worked with Civil War era images to illustrate the beauty and depth of the human experience. In looking intensely at our mortality (as a result of my father's death when I was sixteen), and using war as a metaphor for the journey of "life and death," this visual vocabulary has become an ideal vehicle for my artistic voice. I continue to seek new ways to utilize this historical collection of images and work with contemporary issues that are both extremely personal and ultimately, universal.
