My work seeks to expand on traditional iconography with contemporary symbols and personal reflection through devout research. Conflicting ideals and history from interreligious bodies have led me to research those stories and compare and contrast them with science, reliable source material, and faith. Through new investigation the icon opens itself up to not only the virtuous but the wicked as well. Without an obstacle there is no triumph in the same way that without Judas there is no crucifixion of Jesus and intern no resurrection. All of the characters in the greater history of religion become consequential in that they all play parts in God’s divine planning. It is my obligation in this new body of work to seek out these stories of the human condition and to present them using discernable symbols to shed a contemporary light on these icons.
