Artist Statement Submitted 2014The foundation of my art practice and individual sensibility, is firmly rooted within the sensorially rich fabric of the South and the immersive experience of its living narrative imprinted upon the psychology of my family and my youth.
Through the lens of my personal history, I explore architecture and the natural terrain as strong influence in the transmission of cultural values, beliefs and philosophies. Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, my work is often site-specific, immersive, and deeply connected to the environment, landscape and unique history I am working with.
Combining the use of sound, video, drawing, and sculptural form, I create an active sensorially contained environment both resonanting and articulating it’s surroundings. Within these environments, I position the viewer within the liminal space of activity, simultaneously the onlooker and participant.
