Artist Statement Submitted 2019I am both an artist and a biologist. As a scientist, I am an amphibian specialist working in the fish lab at Louisiana State University. As an artist, I am constantly inspired by nature. As an environmental advocate, I want my art AND science to inspire people about the diversity of life on this wonderful tiny planet and empower each of us to take positive creative actions to sustain the nature around us, which in turn sustains us.
My art is made from diverse mediums including: public light sculptures to spotlight arthropod diversity along with trans-species happenings; living organisms temporarily displaced in enclosures to highlight local flora and fauna; depictions of species ‘cut’ from history because of extinction and framed to frame their absence; and many others.
