Artist Statement Submitted 2018
In this series I am using vintage medium format cameras and traditional film to capture our changing landscape. Part documentary, largely emotional. The process of exposure and development helps me get closer to the subtle transformations.When I put down my digital camera, which allows me to shoot and delete at whim, and shoot with film and finicky decades old cameras, a sense of wonder and familiar excitement returns.
Each time I go out to photograph, I get shout outs from passersby, noticing the unusual camera and pose one has with a twin lens reflex.
I follow up with scanning the negatives and archiving them digitally.
