Artist Statement Submitted 2014
With ink on paper or oil on canvas, my work maps out fragments of our daily lives. Although the marks may often appear to be random from a distance, closer inspection will reveal figurative images and narrative elements. These characters interact with one another but mostly remain isolated in moments that seem reflective. The works convey a sense of purpose and pause in the ordinary, repetitive activity that is taking place in front of the viewer. Using an economy of line, these non-linear narratives are derived from daily life and provide an opportunity for the viewer to consider the impact of the “insignificant”.
