Artist Statement Submitted 2018I am a multi-disciplinary artist striving to create new forms of fine art.
Amiri Geuka Farris is a contemporary artist who uses a wide range of techniques encompassing painting, drawing, video, performance and installation. Amiri's works are full of intimate personal experiences and examines issues surrounding diaspora, culture, memory and perception. His studio is located in Bluffton SC. Amiri’s work has been featured in more than 50 solo exhibitions and juried museum exhibitions across the U.S., including the National Museum of African American History and Culture Museum in Washington, D.C.
?These figurative portraits examine the role of African-American males in modern day society. In these work I use overlaying shapes and designs to depict how Americans regulate patterns of social normality .My work is also heavily influenced by colorism, which is a currently relevant and powerful perspective of how we are superficially defined or discriminated against, by skin tone.
